"Mom, I'm done with my gum..." sounds fine if it's not accompanied with turning around to try to peel the gum off a shirt.

If you can get your hands on some essential oil of lemon, or orange if you can't find lemon, then you will be able to get gum or sap or any other sticky thing out of or off of anything. Even out of hair. We just had a sap incident the other day. A major sap incident.

I guess It's just one of those days huh. I know how it goes. I recently had my first gum in hair incident. Fortunately it wasn't in there to bad.
